Cutthorpe, a village in North-East Derbyshire, England, is located about three miles to the north-west of Chesterfield. Cutthorpe does not have it's own parish church, but does have a Methodist chapel/church. Those interested in tracing family history might find that Cutthorpe ancestors attended the church at Old Brampton, because Cutthorpe is not a separate parish but comes within the parish of Old Brampton. The land of Walter de Linacre is listed in the Domesday book. Linacre Hall was situated at Cutthorpe on land which now contains Linacre Reservoirs. The Hall and it's later replacement which was called Linacre House, was on an area which today is a car-park at the reservoir. A leaflet on Linacre and Cordwell Valleys by Derbyshire County Council says that "the word Linacre literally means arable land where flax is grown. There are records from the 13th century that linen was made in the valley where the damp conditions would have provided ideal conditions for growing the crop."

Local History
This web site consists of a virtual tour of the village of Cutthorpe illustrated with photographs taken by myself in recent years, a list of Cutthorpe place names off the census and a list of occupations of village residents in 1841. There is information about some people of Cutthorpe (from the past) and this includes two articles by Judith Stubbs, a former resident of the village, who has written three books on the history of Cutthorpe. Also there is a little information on Old Brampton church. Finally there is some information about the Enclosure Acts and land ownership in the parish.
